Welcome to Because of a Cat Creations.

Let me start by saying thank you for being here and that I hope you like cats! I often get asked where I got the name for my business so I thought I'd tell you the story of "Because of a Cat" for those who don't know yet. When I was about 18 years old my cat, Shasta, was diagnosed with feline diabetes. Shasta required insulin shots twice a day at 4 units per dose. Insulin is very expensive if you don't know!

My grandma had taught me how to crochet when I was about 8 years old. I only knew about 3 stitches and made just a few basic afghans. Well I after working two part time jobs, going to college full time, I decided to pick it back up. I used crochet as an additional way to make extra money to help pay for her medicine, special diet food, and her many appointments. I took on special order character beanies and then taught myself how to read patterns to further expand my skill level!

Over the years it's become so much more to me than just helping to support extra expenses. I have come to love crochet as a creative outlet for an overreactive brain and as a way to be able to meet others through local events and connect with other cat lovers! So ~because of a cat~ I am here making these beautiful things. I hope you enjoy these products as much as I enjoy getting to make them and share them with you, and your cats.

(p.s. Shasta has since passed but lived to be 15 years old. The diabetes at one point reversed and she came off insulin entirely! She was managed and closely watched by myself with the help of my local veterinarian and through strict a diet. Always consult your local vet for any health concerns of any type for your pets.)
